Review on Reloop OM BLACK Turntable Cartridge Headshell by Lild Zimmerly

Works, but see pinout

First of all straight to the point. Casual listeners and weekend DJs will not be disappointed with this pen. I bought it mainly to listen to the old 45's and thought I'd try it with some classic records as well like my Deutsche Grammophon printed on "The Planets" canvas. I listen to The Planets when I write. it is, and to my untrained ear, the rendition clear with no distortion and a pleasure to listen to. While this is purely subjective, I like the look of these needle cartridges. They just look good on a New York turntable. As you can see from the photos above, the stylus looks pretty good on my cheap shell, and the slim body makes it easy to point the stylus at the track I want to hear. So far the only downside I've found is the interesting pinout. While all of my Audio Technica L and R cartridges are wired on top of each other, this cartridge is connected in an X pattern. I had to go to the Ortofon website (Ortofon makes the cartridges) for the pinout. If you switch to this Audio Technica cartridge, you'll notice the difference. I've attached a pinout picture of this cartridge to the review (with the addition of color and markings); Full instructions can be found on the Ortofon website. Another nice point is the weight included in the package. There is a small piece of metal that looks like a weight that is probably intended for tonearms with heavier counterweights or as a replacement for heavier cartridges. Without the weight, this cartridge weighs about 14g, which is lighter than my desk's standard cartridge. The weight adds another 2G, which can make it easier to set heavier counterweights. For now I think it's a well made and well packaged needle and cartridge. I enjoy listening to music with this stylus and I hope to spend a lot more time with it.
