This item was well rolled and packaged. I was nervous knowing that it would likely be stored and shipped rolled up, that it would take some time for the material to lay flat. He lay down almost immediately. It has a slight outgassing rather than the usual leather smell. It's chilling and not intense. I assume it will go away in a day or so (because of the slight smell). The color looks great, a little darker than the pictures. If you select the colored tiles in the first image it will be more accurate (mine is brown). I don't like to write on a surface that is too hard, it's soft enough to relieve me from a hard desk but not soft enough to take away your pain. (But if you bought it, I think it will help with that, then shame on you). The texture/feel when you mouse over it is great. I like it a lot more than those nasty mouse pads that pick up all the dead cells in your skin and then tape your mouse movements together. Enough glide and enough friction for control. I would have thought it would be good for gaming, but I didn't buy it for that purpose. If I were really picky I'd say I wish there was 2-3mm more cushioning/cushioning. slips underneath, but it's also not very "slippery". If you're an aggressive user this might be an issue for you, but I have my laptop on it and the monitor on the other edge so they hold it in place just enough for nothing to move. All in all, if you're complaining about this, it's because you expected a lot from an item that ONLY costs $12 (11.99, but let's round it up). This item is worth the $12 you are paying for it.
