My hot tub is 5 years old and installed in the house I bought. I don't know how many times it was used or cleaned by the first owner. I rarely used it for 4 years not knowing it needed cleaning until I had a nozzle leak and had to replace 2 nozzles and their lines. After the repair, I explored the cleaning options, and I never noticed any foreign objects or discolored water during the operation. Oh Yuk sounded like a better alternative so I bought a gallon and started a cleaning cycle. Oh Yuk has no smell when I use it, and it only produces about 1 inch of suds on the surface even after the jets have been running for half an hour, so I don't have to worry about suds overflowing from the tub. On my first cycle, all I had was tan, discolored suds on the walls of the tub, and it was easy to wipe away with paper towels after the tub drained while spraying with the tub/tile cleaner I bought at the grocery store . I went through 3 more cycles with less suds and a few strands of hair, but each cleaning cycle shows progressively less discolored suds after emptying the tub. So Oh Yuk is working, but it may have taken a little longer than I expected to get all my savings out. But after 9 years of use, including my 4 years without cleaning, I don't think that's unusual. Now I will do a cleaning cycle after using the bath. maybe every time until I don't get any more discolored foam and then maybe slow down the frequency a bit. A gallon lasts a long time, although I use about 2 ounces more Oh Yuk per cycle (about 6 ounces total) than the container instructions recommend since my tub is a bit larger than some hot tubs. I can recommend this product for its effectiveness and ease of use and cleaning.
