My last Mac laptop is so out of date that this type of product was never offered! The covered area protects your computer from scratches - believe me! It will look VERY worn over the years if you don't protect it from the start. Do yourself a favor, you paid a fortune for your new Mac. Keep your laptop in pristine condition and buy one of these! They are inexpensive, easy to apply and fit perfectly! You can even use the middle area to close the touchpad, although I decided against it; I think sooner or later I will regret this decision!
