Broke after about 2 hours of use

Nice tie bought for my son for a dance show. One day at a dress rehearsal it slipped out and fell apart and his teacher was able to put it back in place, but an hour after we got home it fell out again and it's impossible to fix without sewing. If it was $3 it would be fine, but for $8 I expect to be able to use it more than once.
