I don't know why these things are called "tie bars" - they obviously work because of the "compression". In any case they appear to be well finished, the 'black' is more like a very dark bronze finish and quite nice. I feel like I paid more for an ad that promises to "never rust" (obviously backed by reviews), but we'll see. The springs seem quite strong (but flexible enough) with nice grippy (white) rubber pads (about 2 inches in diameter) and it feels like the curtain is staying in place. The length can be easily adjusted by turning. (At least) one end of the cushions flapped to draw the curtains.
