Review on πŸ“Š Garmin Index S2: Smart Scale with Wireless Connectivity for Complete Body Analysis, Measures Body Fat, Muscle, Bone Mass, Body Water% and More, Black (010-02294-02) by Jason Dinh

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Large scope, excellent data management, a little temperamental to turn on

It's expensive. But not being able to remember weight over time and being able to look at the charts is incredibly handy. The display is very easy to read. It automatically connects to WiFi and makes your data available in your account and app. Garmin has an excellent privacy policy for your data. Some other manufacturers have terrible privacy policies (Weight Watchers, Omron). Withings also has a good privacy policy. If you use Garmin for fitness and training, this is for you. If you don't use Garmin, Withings can be attractively cheaper. The weather function seems useless, but it's actually nice to have in the mornings when you're figuring out what to wear depending on the temperature. It shows the general weather, the current temperature and the high/low of the day. The scales also record body fat percentage, water content, muscle and bone mass. They may have some validity, but I'm skeptical of them. They all bounce around a bit, but you can visually average each chart's plots over time to see progress. The overall trend seems to be the most useful feature for this data. Some have mentioned problems turning the scale on. They appear to be real. Sometimes it turns on for a second when something nearby falls on the ground. Sometimes it does not respond to foot pressure. You need a strong kick. At first I thought I had a problem, but once I figured out the preferred activation method, everything was always fine. However, it certainly has room for improvement. It has wide feet for use on carpet, but like every scale I know, its playability suffers badly on carpet. A thin industrial carpet might be fine. A thick home carpet really ruins everything.

Pros
  • Like everything before
Cons
  • Piggy bank price
