I received the set yesterday. I started with my cambric shirts. This is not a problem. Reading the reviews it was said that it only works with very thin (admittedly relative) material, which is not true. I have used it on a two layer cambric (denim material) and it has been fine. I also worked on the area of the clothing where the fastener pliers couldn't reach. I had to use the punch that came with the kit and a hammer with a piece of wood underneath. Everything turned out beautiful. Don't lose the beat. You may have to if the pliers can't reach.
