Fairly easy to assemble. Be careful when using self tapping screws to assemble the two shelves together. I recommend taking a screw and tapping all the pre-drilled holes in both shelves before installing them on the shoe rack. I only weigh 152 pounds. After assembling a nice block, I decided to sit down and watch TV. A few seconds after I sat down, I heard something crack. I looked under the bench and saw that the boot's thin shaft had buckled, split, and loosened one of the glued braces. I put it back in. Now the split top is less noticeable. The pillow is now only for decoration. I will only use the bank for shoes. The rest of the unit looks absolutely beautiful. The difference between the outside measurement of the top of the frame and the inside, bottom measurement of this frame is 1/8 inch - see photos.
