They just arrived and look even better than expected, no breakage. Someone mentioned that the gray slabs have brown swirls. It looks like a bright terracotta red to me, and it's matte. In my opinion, this gives the plates a rustic, almost handmade look. its striking but by no means dominant color or trait. You have a good weight! If you want lightness, stick with Corelle or melamine. Being ceramic, napkins are fine too. Ceramic scratched glass, some wooden tables and the like. So basically common sense. I love these dishes and have no problem buying more or recommending them to others. Hooray!
