5-6 years ago we put Kohler china sinks (on cast iron) in the kitchen. I didn't bother to read how to properly care for this type of sink and it suffered. It has scratches and the finish is faded down halfway down the sink and to the right of the drain hole. I started looking for products that could help cover the underside, which by now was absorbing any blemishes and blemishes due to the less than perfect texture. I bought a proper Kohler cleaner, a metal Kohler sink gasket, and then used the stuff. I put it on first and when it dried I polished it thinking there was a bit of satin in there. Then I apply the second layer. More shine and most importantly, when the sink is in use, it no longer sticks to every particle or stain. The wax allows these substances to fall down the drain instead of clinging to the uneven texture and staining the porcelain. This stuff only lasts a few weeks so I kept looking. Since it doesn't interact with the sink in any way, I used it to cover the floor. I then explored other, stronger waxes and tried the Carnauba and Silicone Turtle Wax Hard Shell. I have applied it over bath wax and so far it has held up for several weeks with no sign of failure. Always test the wax on an inconspicuous area before using on the main area, but the over bath turtle wax provides long-lasting coverage that fills in damaged, textured bases. I thought I would have to get a new sink. no longer. When it dries you can still see that it's not as shiny as the sides, but at least it has a silky sheen and most importantly no stains, even after rubbing the underside.
