Too many tricks, not enough real yo-yo

Maybe my hands are just too big for this, but I can't get the thing to do anything other than a simple quick return. tricks? I don't know if I can ever get him to do anything. Maybe it's just my method, but it just doesn't work for me, I've already trashed it in case anyone else wants to try.
