We never let our dog lie on our bed (55 pounds is a bit much, even with a king). Instead, several dog beds lay on the floor next to her. Of course, she didn't count those "real" beds and tried to sneak into our bed every few weeks for years, only to be sent back into her bed. We checked the beds regularly, but we didn't like any of them. I finally saw this bed that actually looks like a piece of furniture! In the end we got it and the pad that came with it. Seeing this, she immediately jumped up and looked extremely pleased. She slept happily and dozed in it for several months. Highly recommended.
