I needed something to connect my cheap camcorder to a longer HDMI cable and this thing helped. If you need to pan/rotate your camera on a tripod for sports purposes or similar, you can go a little longer. My camera intermittently lost signal due to excessive physical stress on the mini HDMI port, but this seems to be a camera issue rather than an adapter issue. If he's not moving too much, this thing should help you.
