I have been using Toppik for many years and am mostly happy with it. It covers my bald spots and the color option I use is a worthy match. But it's not ideal for areas with an exposed scalp - it's not intended for that purpose. Toppik needs hair to stick on. I found a workaround - shea butter applied to the scalp holds Toppik in place very well. A strong-hold hairspray also helps. However, none of them can prevent Toppik from peeling or sticking on a bare scalp in strong winds. Enter ELEVATE. I wish I had known that many years ago. Basically, it's more like applying makeup/eyeliner to the scalp. But for me, for my skin tone and hair color, this is a MUCH more natural, subtle effect than Toppik. You blend it into your scalp in the natural direction of your hair. Holds well on the scalp even in windy conditions. And when I wear a daytime hairspray on top - I prefer KENRA #25, which lasts all night (they claim it lasts 120 hours) - then I basically have a long-term hair system solution. One without a few Toppik quirks: messy "salt shaker" application (even with a more convenient spray nozzle can still be messy), needs to be reapplied frequently, can build up in the bottle and become almost useless with even a drop exposed to moisture, etc. d. etc. Also, I don't need a lot of ELEVATE for the subtle effect I'm aiming for. So although I've seen some reviews indicating that there isn't much product in a small compact, but in my experience a little goes a long way, YRMV. The small package makes it very portable and discreet. As an added benefit (wait, there's more!) it covers beard gray and lasts +/- 24 hours. Doesn't replace a beard color, but helps in a pinch if the colors match, like mine. Overall I love this product and highly recommend it.
