I bought this for my 1 year old (yes I know he's 3 years old and up but he uses it 100% with care and support after all which parents his baby would swim alone?!). As a mother of four children aged 16, 13, 9 and 1, two of whom were gifted (one is very gifted), I had to learn quickly which toys had more educational value than others as they needed to be challenged most toys advertised as educational had no real educational value and bored them so quickly that they were a waste of money. Since they learn the most in the first 5 years, which is the foundation for the rest of their lives, I didn't want to waste them. I'm not the kind of mom who sits her kids down with cards, it's all learning through play and exploration as it should be. This toy allows them to learn by exploring water, manipulating it manually, dripping cups, stacking them, using gears and moving them. They see and study physics (although they don't know what physics is anymore), they study cause and effect, they see how a change in parameters leads to a change in the result, and this also has a major impact on their engine Capabilities. My son is 1 year old and he can use everything in this toy almost without my help. My favorite toys aren't electronic toys that name shape or color, but rather toys like this and things like shape sorters, stacking and lace clips, blocks, and Montessori toys. I love that you can reposition the gears and use the cup with the gear at the bottom and the drippers separately because I'm pretty sure the motor won't run forever and the more ways they can play the longer they will last the interest. Have fun and keep exploring and learning without even realizing it (which is the goal). This toy fits the bill and I am very happy with it as is my son.
