The box inside turned out to be more spacious than I expected so I was very satisfied! It fits all of my brushes, even the longer ones that I didn't usually put in my previous art supply boxes. I was able to fit ALL my watercolor supplies and was fairly organized, and the smaller dividers were removable. The long ones are also detachable, but are a little tighter in place. I love plain wood. Strong! Was concerned after reading the reviews that the top would be loose and make noise with all the hesitation, but I think it fits well. No complaints here! Has two little black ties on either side that lift up the bodice which is nice although you can just as easily pick it up by the center divider. I plan on staining the wood a shade or two darker just for fun! The wood has no finish - it's not glossy - it's matte but sanded well for a smooth finish.
