Review on Satechi Type-C Aluminum Monitor Stand Hub with USB-C Port by Percy Haulin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A must for any iMac owner

Apple makes beautiful products, but when there's a choice between beauty and practicality, the company always chooses beauty. So we have the iMac's ultra-clean design, with thin edges that make it impossible to plug in an optical drive, and all ports on the back of the monitor. The design also eliminates any height adjustment of the monitor. Continuing Apple's clean design aesthetic, the Satechi Type-C aluminum monitor stand increases the height of the monitor and eliminates the need to reach for your computer to connect peripherals. I think for $90 that's an amazing price. You can leave external drives and other always-connected devices plugged into the back of your iMac, while the ports on the front stand allow you to plug in and unplug headphones, SD cards, thumb drives, and other USB peripherals like a microphone with ease . You give up a single USB-C port on the back (or a regular USB-A port with the included adapter) to attach a stand hub and bring it back to the front, plus three more USB-A ports. Connections, among those already mentioned . . And because the ports are housed in a slim strip of black plastic, they're invisible when not in use. It has a clever feature that allows you to use as much cable as you need from the rear USB-C port to get under the stand to the back of the hub. A previous review mentioned that this stand feels light, but I can't see what the problem is. Its track is wide enough to avoid tipping over. I also don't have a problem with the rubber feet going through a hole that needs to be secured with some rubber where you can see them. My only gripe is that Revain didn't show this very attractive silver stand that would fit a non-professional iMac like mine. (The Satchi website shows this; if I missed it on Revain, well). But even in the dark gray anodized aluminum that would match the iMac Pro, it still looks great. Oh, and it's big enough to fit an Apple SuperDrive optical drive underneath.

Pros
  • Beautiful packaging
Cons
  • Almost never
