Review on Joovy Room²-Playard: A Stylish and Portable Playpen in Black by Jessi Hodges

Revainrating 5 out of 5

JOOVY is great!

To be clear, this review is for the JOOVY New Room2 with gray fabric and gray mesh. It replaces the Pack n Play TotBloc my daughter takes. I chose not to duplicate the previous playground for a number of reasons: JOOVY New Room2 is slightly larger, has a larger viewing area due to the vertical support design, has two wheels, comes with a waterproof tarpaulin, a zipped carry bag and one color available Selection. My first thoughts: it's not light, but the wheels certainly make it easier to move and avoid strain on the support legs as you don't have to lug it around unless you have help moving it. Set up was easy enough, similar to P&P, and the soft mattress fits most babies and toddlers. The included waterproof sheet fits well and has deep pockets to keep it from falling out. There are reinforced slots for straps that hold the mattress to the frame. It has a very soft velor upper and you can purchase additional accessories to have a spare just in case. It's good to have a zipped cover because when you use the NR2 on holiday etc it prevents dirt from getting in or the playground frame from slipping off the changing mattress if you haven't tightened the straps enough. It's made of windbreaker-like material and the zipper works easily. The reason I chose grey/grey was simple; Wet children's fingers and drooling mouths are pre-programmed and attract dirt like a magnet. When your child is old enough to stand, they'll chew on the top bar and run their hands (and tongue) over the mesh. It doesn't take long for a playground to start looking ugly when you're dealing with bright fabrics and mesh. My daughter's P&P has a very light gray fabric and white mesh. It only took her grandson a few months to look dirty (she jokes that only the top bar shows through). I hope the dark gray hides the grime better, but if it doesn't, a quick wipe should get it looking new again. Now for the cons: it's heavy, but if you're strong and in good shape you should be able to handle the transport easily. For the rest of us, this can be a struggle. I wish the mattress was firmer, but if you use straps, especially if you have a "creative" child who likes to dig in tunnels, the mattress needs to stay in place. Nevertheless, check from time to time for missing toys under the mattress. Adding an extra aftermarket mattress isn't recommended, and some reviewers put extra comforters under the sheet. I bought a spare waterproof sheet and folded it in half and it's soft enough. Because they are waterproof, you can easily take them off if the top one gets dirty and you'll have a clean sheet. None of the disadvantages mentioned are enough for me to deduct a star. To conclude this novel, no matter what color you choose, I think you will be very satisfied with JOOVY New Room2 and the extra space your child has to play in can give you peace of mind for longer. I will update my review if my mind changes or if there is an issue. ****Update: I didn't have this device in a week before my grandson vomited in it! On one side down, tuck in the mesh, meet the waterproof sheet and pull together under the mattress. Pooh! A few paper towels for the parts and a few disinfectant wipes for the rest and there was no sign of the accident. Moisture never penetrated the sheet and nothing leaked through the underside onto the carpet. I was so glad I didn't see any trace of stains or odors the next day! Incidentally, the bulging or bulging mentioned in other reviews also occurred with our mattress. This in no way affects the function of the playground.
