This collar was almost awesome for my dog. I have a 18lb mini poodle mix and I bought an XL for her because she is oddly long and tall. She has some skin irritation and won't leave her hot spots alone so I put the collar on and she chewed off the plastic adjuster on the strings immediately and got the collar off. I then used the neck strings to tie it around her own collar which worked for a few hours and then she managed to rip it off again. I decided to cut another hole and add another string in the neck to better secure it to her collar and that seems to stay put and it doesn't put any pressure on her neck. So if your dog is well-mannered or sedated after surgery, this collar might work better, but for my dog it needed some major adjustments. It is nice that she is able to comfortably lay down and use it as a pillow and eat with it on which is why I went through all the trouble fixing this collar.
