Review on 6.5X10 FT Rectangular Patio Umbrella, Outdoor Table Tilt Umbrella For Pool Deck & Yard - Beige by Paula Baker

Color fades, but the weak link is the tilt hinge

This is a pretty nice umbrella, but as some others said, the tilt hinge can get busted easily. Today a surprising gust of wind caught the umbrella and damaged the hinge. To be fair, it was a strong gust: it dragged the heavy umbrella stand and the aluminum table about six feet across the deck until it came to rest against the house. The hinge would no longer hold the umbrella straight up (see pic). I put a hose clamp around it (see pic), which makes it tight, but I have to loosen the clamp to close the umbrella, then I have to reinstall the clamp when I open it again. What a pain. I'll probably replace the umbrella (again) when I tire of this game. It's a shame because I spent an afternoon attaching Christmas lights to the ribs, and I'll have to do that again for the new one. That, and I expected to get more than one season out of it.I got this umbrella with a tilting feature because it's a nice-to-have but I rarely had occasion to use it. I didn't imagine it would lead to the early death of the umbrella. My advice: if you don't need a tilting umbrella, get one that doesn't tilt. It's a liability.I added a pic to show the color fading (outside vs inside). This is after one summer in New Jersey.

Pros
  • Smooth crank opens and folds the umbrella compactly
Cons
  • The base may rust and damage outdoor flooring or surfaces over time
