Provides excellent protection. As with other assembly pads we recommend that you trim the bottom and possibly the top a little if you wish, this will lighten the load and stop cutting your chest when you start welding. You can trim the inner lens pocket on the flap with a knife, file, or dremel to widen the gap for the ADF. I use a Lincoln 4C ADF 2x4 1/4 .35 thick and it fits in there with an outer lens, a spacer, then an ADF, with another outer lens on the back to protect it when I sand it etc. open. Smaller heads don't fit as well with a standard ratchet headgear. So keep that in mind if you have a small head like mine (7 inches) you might need a good headband to thicken it up for better grip or just use a headgear with an elastic band and surgical tubing instead of an elastic band. Overall a fantastic hood that is RIGID unlike the Sellstrom bucket style where it is flexible and bends easily.
