Review on NEC PA271W-BK 2560x1440 27-Inch Monitor by Stephen Kressley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Shock. just a good shock

Years ago we had a Mitsubishi/NEC DiamondPro CRT monitor when we started our publishing/photography business. We then switched to an Apple iMac with a monitor in a hardware/processor/monitor upgrade. It was a bad move. The monitor brought us back to the highest level of professional quality. We hooked it up to an old iMac via its mini-DVI port and set it up as a secondary monitor (it will have full dual-head resolution once we get a new Mac). I was blown away by how good these monitors are in terms of color reproduction as well as the excellent anti-glare coating. If you have a demanding customer for color accuracy, this is what you need. or otherwise quickly exit the publishing/photography business. I knew Apple's displays were bad (they use cheap materials that cause the backlight to turn yellow and an unacceptable glossy glass covering the LCD panel that essentially needs to be removed to work properly) . This NEC brought us back to the professional studio. and I'm currently discussing buying a second one to give a very broad view of the window tones you need to use at the same time in this type of work. The price is also hard to beat. The next monitor of this quality for this type of work comes from EIZO. Check prices if in doubt about value for money. And skeptics don't understand why so much is being paid for it. Well, if you are pursuing your professional path to professional editing for major international customers, then let's talk. Until then, your review of this class of monitor is almost irrelevant (e.g. a Toyota driver's review of driving a Porsche sports/racing car).
