My wife bought this bag for a trip to Italy. Within the first week of use, the seams sewing the strap to the bag failed rendering the bag completely unusable. She didn't overstuff it or handle it roughly, it was almost normal everyday use of the bag. If the stitching is that bad, we doubt how reliable the band actually is. Of course, cutting the strap yourself can be tricky, but if the strap easily detaches from the bag, then it seems that getting really good tension will eventually cause the bag to detach. She liked the bag itself, the bags, etc., but we would definitely not recommend buying it.
