Maybe I shouldn't be so quick to write a review after Boo Boo's first meal, but he loved it . I had my doubts about turkey and sardines as it's picky about omega-3s. I dehydrated two bricks and swallowed an omega 3 capsule and the kid swallowed it. Now he's looking for leftovers on his paws! Boo recently started chemotherapy for canine lymphoma, so diet has become extra important. There were too many recipes out there and too much conflicting advice on how to make your own. There are so many enzymes in a dog's digestive tract that he can't get them by cooking meat on the stove. If you can wave it, you'll have more power, but it would be too easy for me to miss something important. I reviewed my list of critically good and bad ingredients and began searching for store-bought products; but my focus has been on treating boo boo and dealing with the side effects (note: most websites state that most dogs don't experience them, but my poor chap took a lot. Nothing sharp thank goodness, but only stunned), so I decided to find a blogger who was in my place and did all the work. I found one on www.somepets.com that recommended this food as she fed it to her dog Tai after he successfully completed the CHOP protocol. my shoes: carbohydrates/most grains turn into sugar in the body. Cancer cells love sugar. Stay away from them in food and treats. Boo Boo has always followed a grain-free diet, which meant one less replacement. Definitely a win. A true raw diet can be healthy for healthy dogs but too risky for a treated dog due to a weakened immune system and higher risk of infection. Raw beef is the least dangerous as it contains fewer germs than other meat options, but raw beef is something I'd be reluctant to voice during treatment. Many good diets for healthy dogs include fruits and vegetables. Here you have to be careful because of the carbohydrate information above. For example, when I was trying to make my own dog food, I added carrots and peas because I thought they would be good (which I had in the fridge), but they are too high in carbs. That's what made me decide that my attempts at cooking might do more harm than good. Cancer cells are less sensitive to fat cells. Protein, protein, protein. Much like the human market, veterinary medicine advertises tons of dietary supplements with very little, if any, scientific evidence. To make matters worse, many of these supplements can interfere with treatment if your dog is undergoing chemo/radiation therapy. Be sure to show your vet what you're adding. I showed the probiotic to my veterinary oncologist, Boo Boo, and she said it wouldn't hurt (read: couldn't help). The only supplement with scientifically validated studies and clinical evidence to improve outcomes in canine lymphoma has been omega-3 integration. That's why I love the sardines in this meal and probably makes the omega-3 oil I add taste a little better than Boo's. beef dishes! I'll come back and edit this if Boo's enthusiastic reception changes.
