Well-designed, flexible bag

As a medical student, I needed a bag that could do different jobs. I wanted a bag that wouldn't look out of place in a classroom or clinic. Since my school travels abroad with assistants, I also wanted a bag strong enough to take with me on a hike in the mountains of the Dominican Republic. I thought it would be impossible to find a bag that met my extensive list of criteria. That's why I was so excited when I saw the ECBC Hercules bag on Amazon. I've been using this bag for a few months and I'm very satisfied. The exterior of the bag is made from a material ECBC calls Kodra. It seems quite strong, but still light and flexible. To protect the inside, it also has a water-repellent coating. I've gotten caught in the rain a few times, and after unbuttoning the rain-soaked oatmeal, I was glad everything was dry and clean inside. The outer seams of the bag are very strong and well finished. After two months of continuous use, there is not a single sign of wear on the seams. The padded back is breathable and keeps me sweat-free when I take the bag outside. The straps are well padded and don't dig into your shoulders at all. The set also includes an adjustable chest strap. I don't use it often, but for those who want extra support for heavy workloads, it works great. The simple, thoughtful design of the outer part of the bag extends to the design of the inner compartment. There are two zippered pockets on the front of the bag to store small items with quick access. The top pocket is slightly larger and has room for a wireless mouse, headphones and sunglasses. The bottom pocket can hold a few flat items, but no more. It's handy for your checkbook, passport, boarding pass, etc. It also features a smaller, fleece-lined inner pocket perfect for an iPod or smartphone/PDA. Behind two small outer pockets you get a larger organizer compartment. This compartment has many inner pockets for small loose items. You get a small zippered mesh pocket, a large zippered pocket, five pen holders, and a Velcro pocket. There is also an attached strap that can be used for key chains; I use it to store a flash drive. The main compartment of the bag offers enough space for books and other items. Easily fits up to three 1" textbooks or binders. Also included is a large zippered mesh pocket ideal for storing your computer charger. This compartment also houses a tablet sleeve. The sleeve is lined with fleece on one side and holds your tablet securely with a Velcro strap. It's clearly designed for larger 9.7-inch tablets, and anything smaller probably won't fit as snugly. Finally we got to the laptop compartment in the bag; After all, it's a laptop bag, right? The fleece-lined compartment fits up to a 17" laptop with Velcro closure and has a foam adjuster that can be placed inside to accommodate smaller laptops. I currently have a 15 inch Macbook and I find it fits perfectly without the divider. The laptop compartment is separated from the rest of the bag, allowing for the use of ECBC's acclaimed TSA Quick Pass System. The sides zip up and the case opens so you can easily slide it through the scanner. While I didn't have a chance to try this feature at the time of writing this review, I imagine it will save a lot of time and nerves when navigating a busy airport. My only criticism is that the laptop bag doesn't have as much padding as other bags I've had. While I've never felt my laptop could get damaged in any compartment, I believe this aspect of the bag could be improved. There are also two zip pockets on either side of the bag. Unzipped, they unfold with a net and serve as a holder for water bottles. It's a smart design that allows you to hide the holders when not in use. They can also be used as an additional shelf for small parts. All in all, the ECBC Hercules backpack is the best bag I have ever owned. This is a very well designed and constructed bag that is equal parts stylish and functional. Thanks to the well thought-out interior design, it offers much more space than it might appear at first glance. The added protection of a water-resistant exterior and zips gives you peace of mind when caught in a downpour, so you can rest assured that all your gear stays nice and dry. Pros: + Attractive, stylish case + Sturdy, durable construction + Well-designed, functional interior offers great organization. + TSA quick pass + Water-repellent optics. Cons: - Expensive for a backpack - Lack of padding on sleeves for laptop and tablet. A well-designed and high-quality bag that can be used in a variety of settings, ideal for students and professionals. I highly recommend the ECBC Hercules backpack.
