I bought this to replace the shift boot on my Nissan 240sx. The boot I was wearing was worn, torn and generally unappealing. I thought it would be a good replacement at a reasonable price. The material it is made of is not leather but a very dense cloth material. It is very pleasant to the touch and in general I am satisfied with its texture. The red stitching also adds a bit of flair if you like it. If not, then I think it's subtle enough not to be too distracting. In terms of usability, it's not exactly new out of the box. There are no screw holes in the fabric, so you need to measure and make it yourself. Shouldn't be too difficult. The boot also comes with plenty of material so you don't have to worry about running out of material. Also, the hole that the shifter goes through seems a bit small. This wasn't a problem for me as my shifter slipped through, but it can be a problem on other cars.
