These shoes are meant for volleyball, but good racquetball/squash shoes are becoming harder and harder to find online. I've been playing them for about two weeks now and they seem to be working fine. The traction is not as good as with a solid rubber outsole, but quite good. They seem well made and sturdy. I will update this review after a month or two of use. A month back: still in great shape. I would say they are guards. I will take them again when this pair is worn out. Three-month review: Still in great shape! Six month recap: Well, unfortunately, they finally went down the drain. Lateral tear near the sole. I'm ordering a new pair. I think it's fair to say I got more than my money's worth. Playing racquetball three to four times a week for six months is a real beating for any shoe.
