I'm short and the dress might be longer than expected, but I bought this dress to be more comfortable at work and because it's made in the USA , not as a tribute mode. In fact, a judge on the project's runway might have called this dress a simple, messy dress. You can point out that it is too long for my size. but for the intended purpose of the dress it is acceptable and I could hem it. I ordered L. I wear a medium size shirt in old navy and a size 12 pants. The dress fits well. However (and this is important if you're wearing it to church or work) - it stretches in the chest area and is almost see-through when exposed to light (e.g. makeup light). I have to wear a blouse underneath. An XL size would have been too big for me elsewhere (and would it have solved the problem? I'll never know). If the dress stretches to fit a part of the body, it must also provide adequate opacity. The bags are great. I thought I needed a belt but it looks fine without it.
