Non-slip natural rubber backing. The surface is textured, flexible plastic that can be cleaned and won't wear down like a cloth. About 1/8 inch thickness is acceptable - not too thin. Please note this is a low friction mat. If you're used to a fabric pad that resists mouse clicks, you might have to adjust. I personally like the smooth feel.
