I bought this bin because I needed a small bin in my living room that matched the decor and was small. I loved the look of this basket because it actually matches a custom made lamp table with real leather inlay on the top and a tasteful little real gold detailing on the leather; This basket looks like it was made for him without the gold. I'm so disappointed in him. The basket is made from thin plywood about a quarter inch thick and is roughly finished, not as smooth as I expected. The quality of the basket does NOT guarantee the price of $51.49, let alone the original price at which it was reduced. Let me get this straight and explain why I know this; I design and build custom furniture, repair and restore thousands of dollars worth of antiques, and design and build from scratch. I use perfect dowels and natural wood dowels to connect my pieces and almost never use nails or screws in my furniture. In fact, as a teacher of people with learning disabilities, I have used my skills to teach students fine furniture and woodworking as a complement to a geometry lesson to relate the subject to real life. My students have made better pieces with finer finishes than this basket. I also found a couple of obvious and ugly scratches on the basket but these can be covered with a plastic bag. Still, I'm keeping this basket for several reasons: 1. I hate giving things back. 2. This is still the prettiest basket I could find. 3. It fits in the free space I have for the recycle bin. If you buy this bin, get ready to shell out money for something that isn't worth the price, that arrives damaged, is a bit flimsy, but looks very nice from afar. I would not gift this to anyone due to its quality or lack of it, its fragility and poor workmanship. If you are looking for something beautiful and you don't mind, then you should definitely buy this wastepaper basket.
