Review on 🎀 Professional-grade Samson Q9U Dynamic Broadcast Microphone with Versatile XLR/USB Connectivity by Mike Pedroza

Durability is questionable. Built in filters are aggressive

I bought this mic through Best Buy as it wasn't available through Revain here. Now that the mic is available here at Revain I was hesitant to buy another one as my last one had issues with durability. Here's a list of things that raised concerns about this mic. Note: The fixed connector on this microphone is broken off. When the microphone is set to "flat" in the built-in filter settings, the sound quality becomes very muddy. A little too much bass. I almost had to speak over 12+ inches from the mic to keep muddy bass to a minimum. If you enable the bass rolloff filter, the setting is too aggressive, like it wipes out the bass completely (which isn't good either). The microphone sounds best when the MID gain filter is enabled. However, it is also aggressive. This makes your voice sound artificial. Even if you activate filters on the microphone, you have to activate some EQs. Of all the mics I've owned, this one sounded weird right out of the box. The bracket on which this microphone is mounted is non-detachable. The mount that this mic sits on cannot tighten the swivel. The connection between the mount and the rod or tripod is not strong (there are videos of people on YouTube, the connector broke off - see my picture) Conclusion: I really wanted a microphone like this. I understand why the launch of this mic has been delayed by a significant amount of time. This is a very nice microphone. Too bad the audio profile isn't that good. I find the built-in filters on the microphone too aggressive. Since it has both USB and XLR connectors, you'd think this mic would sound great out of the box. It is best to EQ this mic as soon as you connect it through DAW or OBS filters (if using OBS). I just couldn't get this mic to sound "right" for some reason. It definitely looks like an unfinished mic that went into production despite the delays.
