Review on J Tech Digital Premium Quality Splitter by Jason Wright

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The Absolutely Perfect Optical Digital Input Switcher

First, Revain screwed up the first time and sent the wrong product—a similar switch from another vendor that cost about a third less, and a working one that also cost about a third less. Sometimes you have to use a poor quality product to realize the incredible value of a quality product. I have used J-Tech products before and have always been impressed with the overall finish. The J-Tech 4x2 SPDIF TOSLINK Matrix Switch looks similar but is much better built. The housing is very solid and the electronics are well made. In contrast, the other switch had a cheap metal body, and some TOSLINK connectors actually physically disappeared inside the device when you tried to connect an optical cable to it. These connectors were apparently soldered directly onto the PCB without any physical support to hold them in place. On the contrary, J-Tech components are durable and reliable in use. In terms of functionality, the J-Tech switch works very well and is easy to use. The remote works well but not from afar which is my only gripe. Choosing the inputs for each of the two outputs is easy, and I like that they are independent. If you wish, you can even connect the same input to both outputs at the same time. The sound quality is excellent, as you would expect from digital signals. All in all, this is a great device.

Pros
  • one-way fiber optic input splitter for three sets of SPDIF/TosLink signal receivers.
Cons
  • Out of fashion
