I've been waiting for this little LED technology to come out for years, so I light up the artwork in our old house (built 1913). Working in a small attic was going to be a nightmare - I expected it. Also, getting power from the newer circuit around the existing button and tube was a hassle, and then finding the right spot for the switch and installing it was another hassle. After all the fun was over, cutting out the holes and installing was a breeze. I made sure the area I was punching was free of wires, insulation, rafters, etc. by drilling a pilot hole and routing wire #14 up so I could see it from above. Using a plaster ceiling joist, I positioned them so that they are mostly not visible from the room (18 inches) but still provide a good angle. I actually ran the drill backwards to start to minimize grabbing and damaging the old ceiling plaster and lathe. The heat is spot on, and the dimming (uses a Lutron LED dimmer) is essential. I have 4 left and I will install them in the dining room as well when I get a chance, I hope they last a long time - I am afraid they are integrated systems with no bulb changes. Our work has revived the fame and admiration of this lighting system.
