First of all, to clarify some points. No, your phone is no better. Of course, in good light and still subjects, the phone can take pictures that look just as good for the most part. It could be argued that the Pixel 3's night mode performs much better in very dark shots (again, when the subject is perfectly still). However, if you want fast autofocus, tracking everything that moves, the ability to zoom from 24 to 200 (no digital zoom, although Sony's sharp zoom is a nice feature), full control, etc., you'll see with a normal one not good looking phone. The second to be clear. Does it cost $1200? I see it all over the RX100 series. There is absolutely no way for another person to reply to this. Cost is a relative term. If you're looking for a phenomenal compact camera that can keep up with its big brothers in good light, then this camera is worth the money. Can it replace a large camera and lenses? Again it is possible. The question is, can you live with limitations? This is the one I'm facing right now. I also have a full frame Sony A7III and some good lenses. I compared and compared these two cameras in all settings. For the most part, the RX100 VII performs very well, in some cases even better. It's even closer now with the addition of an external mic (no place to put a mic but you can check my other reviews for a nice lightweight mount that works great). Now that the sun is setting, the A7III pulls ahead. Understand that the A7III is a beast in low light and has a much larger sensor. The A7III is also much heavier, especially with the lens attached. Most likely I will take the RX100 VII with me. The autofocus on both is high-end Sony, one of the best if not the best. There are many articles and videos complaining about this camera's Sony menu system. I say meh I realize it's not the best, but you have so many customization options that you don't have to delve into the menus once you've set it up. I never actually received this complaint. Most of the keys are customizable, you have the Fn key that takes you to another panel that you can customize, and you have "My Menu" that you can customize. so these are just my thoughts. For me, this camera is worth its price. The question of keeping my A7III is now up in the air. This camera really does everything the A7III can in a much smaller package. Do I really need an excellent low-light skill? My subtleties. Sony. Rotate the stick by the handle with this camera. It is very petty to charge extra for this camera being smooth. You'll also need to plan for a second battery and small charger for $1,200. Small again IMHO. You know the battery isn't big, so add another one. Also, many want to make you the same, but a camera with an option 24-70 with a larger aperture. I'm one of those people. The 200 zoom is fine for many, but a lower light option would be nice.
