Battery doesn't fit

Apparently this hasn't happened to others, but the battery compartments are just too small for AA batteries. I can put the battery in, but since the slot is too narrow I can't put the batteries all the way in, and they're also too short to fit all the way in, so the battery can't touch both ends. . I just got a defective one? It seems that the production will produce slots of the same size, so I don't get it, but it is.
