Washes well after three washes, but be careful with household dryers. I have a large capacity GE dryer, but this comforter is bulging and the heat coming from the back of the dryer gets hot and bends the batting area of the comforter. I make sure to stand and watch it, lay it down for 10 or 15 minutes, take it out and shift the quilt so the heat isn't concentrated in one area to burn or soften the fibers because my dryer turns can heat up behind . If it squeezes the batting fibers I just take my hand and fluff it to fluff it again, bring the blanket back over and over and dry for 10-15 minutes and repeat until the blanket is dry. I think I did that four or five times in front of the ceiling. dry or you can hang a blanket to air dry. Which I recommend if the blanket is not going to be used immediately and to keep it looking good in the future. I know there is some shrinkage, most likely due to drying. The duvet is very warm when used on very cold nights. Hope that helps. Oh my cats really liked this material so I gave them pillowcases.
