Review on FT4 Heart Rate Monitor by POLAR by Donald Marin

Revainrating 1 out of 5

FT4 was defective - do not buy

FT4 stopped working properly after less than a year. I received a return authorization from Polar and had to pay to send it to their repair facility in New York. He returned and did the same. Every time I use it in the gym it gives incorrect readings - heart rate is much higher than it should be - which is reflected on both the watch and the monitor of the LIFe Fitness treadmill - then it's set to as it seems right - then it sometimes goes crazy with me again. That's frustrating, and that's why the training data log gets messed up. Polar would not trade it for a new one. I put "1" because there is nothing less than "1". waste of money. Update 12/28/15 Polar's customer service is terrible. I have sent the FT4, chest strap and transmitter to their service center in New York twice. Came back both times with the same problem. The third time I called to discuss the problem with a live person. She said it was the battery and sent me another battery for the transmitter. Battery got 12-26-15, changed battery, went to gym, same problem only worse. This is going to be really fun. Polar had to replace the device under warranty after being unable to repair it the first time. Now I'm waiting for a call from the customer service manager. Will update later, but for now I wouldn't delve into Polar again. (updated 6/11/2016) I've given Polar a couple of chances to fix the issue. They even sent me an ft4 which they said was 'new' (but not in a new box - I think it was just refurbished), both pieces with new batteries, new chest strap but it always has still the same problem. I even tried using a connecting gel which helped a bit for a while. But you shouldn't need gel for this to work. With the gel, I still get wildly fluctuating readings on both my watch and the treadmill monitor at the gym. I think it's the chest strap that's giving wrong results, but Polar can't or won't figure it out. So be aware that this can happen to you. I don't think I will ever buy anything from Polar again. I give him "0". 12/27/2016 last update - I keep trying FT4 and gel chest strap hoping it somehow works. Sometimes it is. But most of the time I get incredible heart rates of 180-190 beats per minute. Completely unreliable. I would never buy again. I do not recommend this to anyone. In fact, the careless treatment I received from Polar's customer service department annoyed me about anything bearing the Polar name. I never heard from the customer service manager and this is a year later. I still put "0". Don't buy this. It's too late to return this FT4 for a refund so I wasted my money and a lot of time.
