These purple icicle lights are very beautiful, cheap but beautiful! They are packed in small boxes upon arrival. The control unit and the lights themselves are NOT waterproof. I use outdoor lights as Christmas lights. I cover the control boxes to protect them from the elements and the lamps typically last two to three months of continuous use before a short circuit occurs. This is New England, winter temperatures sometimes drop below freezing with snow and ice. It takes a little patience to get the bulbs out of the box, but once you get the hang of them, headlights are a breeze. I use 2" Kwik Clip Holiday Christmas Light Hangers to hold the lights in place over the sundeck railing. Plastic clips require no nails or double sided tape and will not damage the wood. I have used the TayMac MM110G Single Outlet Weatherproof Outlet Covers, to cover and protect the control boxes and electrical connectors.I hold the covers in place with some zip ties.
