I've waited my whole life for this camera and it was worth the wait! It delivers excellent picture quality in the smallest possible package. I'm a point and shoot user who was disappointed with the photo quality of even expensive point and shoot cameras, but never bought a DSLR because I knew I never wanted to carry one around. If that describes you, then this is your ideal camera. If you own a DSLR and use less than 5% of your camera's capabilities, this camera is for you too. On the other hand, if you are an experienced DSLR user, skip this camera as you will be disappointed with the compromises that make this camera a smart choice for the average consumer. Why is this camera "perfect" if you are a typical or even advanced point and shoot user? You'll immediately notice the following improvements COMPARED TO POINT AND SHOOTING: - Significantly better low light/indoor shooting - Faster shutter response time - 7fps burst shooting capability and other DSLR-like features - Superb HD video COMPARED TO DSLR, the You get : - A much smaller camera than a DSLR that you can really carry around on a regular basis - Equal or better HD video due to the advanced autofocus technology in the Sony Alpha Nex, which has better continuous autofocus than the average DSLR . Photo quality comparable to the average user's DSLR (even if you are an experienced DSLR user, skip this camera). The easy-to-use camera designed for the tant function is very accessible and the advanced features are hidden in the menu. Advanced features are there if you need them, but if you're likely to set the camera to use automatic settings, you won't need the extra features and will appreciate the camera's ease of use. COMPARING TO OTHERS WANT PERFECT CAMERAS, you'll be glad you waited for the Sony Alpha Nex because it: - Smaller than other options - Better photo quality thanks to a larger APS-C sensor (12x larger than a typical point isolated Sensor). - shoot, and also significantly larger than the competing Micro Four Thirds sensor) - Has better video performance - Owned this camera category equal or cheaper prior to the introduction of the Sony Alpha Nex. MP Live MOS Micro Four Thirds Interchang Flex Lens Digital Camera with Zuiko 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Digital Zoom Lens (Black) And I'm glad I waited. The Sony Alpha Nex has better photo and video performance than both, a smaller form factor than both, and is cheaper than Panasonic (though slightly more expensive than Olympus, which dropped the price when Sony announced it). As for Nex-3. Compared to the Nex-5, get the Nex-3 if you care about the dollars that come with the price difference. Three key differences aren't really worth the extra cost if you want to make the most of it: (1) The average user won't see a noticeable difference between the Nex-5's higher 1080i video resolution and the Nex-5's 720p video resolution. 3 (and I have a hard time believing that home video could even benefit from higher resolution). (2) The Nex-5 has a metal body compared to the Nex-3's plastic body, which is aesthetically pleasing but not required. (3) Nex-5 is slightly smaller in two of the three sizes (0.2 inch and 0.1 inch). Due to the overall size of the camera and lens, a slight reduction in height and width makes no practical difference. Spend your savings on things that actually impact how you use your camera, like: B. a spare battery or a larger memory card. Other things to look out for: - The flash is small and detachable, unlike almost any other camera you might consider. PRO: You don't need this often due to its excellent low-light performance, giving you a more compact camera. CONS: There is one piece you can lose or forget to take with you when you really need it. If you want multiple lenses, there aren't many lenses that are directly compatible with the camera, and they're expensive compared to competing products. But for an advanced point-and-shoot user, you don't need multiple lenses; 18-55mm only or if you're broke 18-200mm when it comes out (expected autumn 2010). But once you have an 18-200mm, a larger lens starts to negate the benefits of a small body. Despite being very compact compared to a DSLR, it won't fit in a pocket (although it will fit in a wallet). The lens still sticks out like a DSLR, so it's not quite as portable as an ultra-compact soapbox. But for quality shots, there's no smaller camera than this.
