Easily fix design flaws at home.

I bought this product as a Christmas present and I forgot that my daughter told me that there is a defect in the base, which makes the table very wobbly. At first I didn't quite understand what she was talking about. Now it's a bit late to return the table. I went to her house and saw the problem myself and now I'm reading other reviews describing the same problem. Each of the three legs has a raised piece of wood that slides into a groove in the base. Once the legs are in place a wooden washer is screwed into the base of the base to hold the legs in place. Only one of the legs was held securely by a wooden disc because either the protruding pieces of wood or the three grooves were not exactly the same size or shape. To solve this problem, I took an ordinary kitchen sponge and used a magic marker to draw the shape of a wooden disc on the sponge. Then I cut out a round piece of sponge that is slightly smaller than the guide I drew. So when the sponge is squeezed, it expands to a smaller diameter than the diameter of the wood disc. I made a hole in the center of the round sponge to insert a screw protruding from the center of the wood disc. Before screwing the wooden disc into the bottom of the table base, I put a sponge on the screw. Then I screwed the disc into the base as tight as I could. In my case the sponge wasn't very flexible or maybe too thick. So I moistened the sponge enough to make it more flexible. Then, using maximum force, I screwed the disk into the base. You have to press down on the disc as you spin it or you won't get into the slots that hold it in the base. I'm a little woman; so I'm not that strong. A stronger person probably shouldn't get the sponge wet and probably shouldn't spin the disc as hard as possible. Over tightening can crack the wood washer or damage the grooves that hold the screw in place. The sponge filled in any gaps left by unevenly finished pieces of wood. As a result, the legs were in place. Don't forget to make the sponge a little smaller than the disc, otherwise it will stick out and be visible. My sponge is a bit transparent but I can put some black paint on it or use a thinner sponge. If I had used a slightly thinner sponge it probably wouldn't have been visible. The sponge should be thick and strong enough to fill in any gaps between the grooves that the legs go in and the disc and give a good, firm grip. My only concern is that a wet sponge will go moldy if it doesn't dry immediately. This is another reason to use a sponge that's flexible enough and not so thick that it needs to be wetted to squeeze enough for the screw to penetrate the base. Except for the movable legs, the table is made of solid and heavy wood, which gives it a pleasing appearance. This is not an easy garbage table. I hope this helps you if you want to save your spreadsheet.
