I bought this partly because of the weight: when I switched to a safety razor I wanted one with weight. It's heavy, but with a short handle, it's also easy to handle. The only time I cut myself was when I wasn't careful. Fits well in the hand, comfortable on the face. Of course, the electric shaver had to be adjusted a bit, but I like to shave with it. And the results are better than any other razor I've used. During my research I read that a safety razor should be used at a 45 degree angle (I think it was); I remember it when I shave and just pay attention to the few minutes that go into it. If a beginner takes their time and is confident that the "safe" part of the name is there for a reason, they will be fine.
