Review on Melissa & Doug Blue's Clues 3-Pack by Cody Stroop

Bought these for my son to use in the car. He's 5.5 years old and I think maybe he's a bit old for them but he still plays with them (maybe he doesn't care about them as much as the younger kid). It's a pretty cool concept... You fill a "pen" with water and then color in different pictures. The water reacts with the surface of the image and floods the colors along with the hidden images (the images have no outlines so you can't see them until you get wet. My son loves these parts of the images the most). "Coloring" - on the opposite cover there are small games / tasks that guide the child to look for specific objects. These are all images that appear when wet (you cannot see them when looking at a black and white photo). My son likes them too. My only caveat is that while "coloring" doesn't make a mess. Like markers or paint, pens can leak when filled with water and stored in a plastic pen holder (mainly when the pad is on the floor or upside down). Enough water ran out of a pen to drench and warp the pages. If kept upright in a bag or similar it will not leak, but that's quite difficult with children. And emptying and filling the pens each time takes a little longer than we would like. But overall it's a lot of fun. I think they are best suited for children aged 3+ but can keep older children entertained as well. I recommend. Great for travel.
