First off I have to say I didn't quite believe it when the reviewers said these boots were 2 sizes too big. Wanting to buy something with little room to grow considering my 21 month old is between a size 5 and 6 for toddlers made me a little skeptical of how big everyone was claiming these shoes were big. Well, they were so right! My daughter has outgrown most size 5 shoes and barely fits a size 6 on most brands. Thinking I would give her thick socks to go with these wellies I bought her a size 5 hoping she would like a size 6 would fit. But these boots are gigantic. The boot is very sturdy and a bit heavy. it seems my daughter was wearing steel boots when she tried them on. The shaft opening is also quite wide, so her legs slipped as she stepped forward. I did some comparisons with a pair of old size 5 navy blue boots which fit her perfectly. Oakiwear has a much larger shaft and the boot runs well over 1 size. I also compared the size 5 and size 7 TOMS shoes to oak canvas boots. TOMS is more appropriate for toddler shoes in my opinion. and size 7 TOMS is approximately the same size as our size 5 Oakiwear boots. Considering the size, these boots are very durable and thick. I love the special design I bought and the fact that I didn't have to shell out twice as much for a Hunter or Hatley boot while still getting the quality and desirability of those boots. I only have to wait a year before my girl can wear them! UPDATE: (12/17/18) My daughter is now 26 months and wears size 6 shoes, sometimes she can wear a size 7 if they are trainers. It rained a week ago and we tried them on again. still too clumsy and heavy to walk because her feet slip off. I have a feeling she probably won't be able to wear them until she's a size 7 and 8. 18) My daughter is now 26 months old and wears size 6 shoes, sometimes she can wear a size 7 if they are trainers.
