A step in the right direction

There are many tips for reducing Christmas waste, and fully recycling wrapping paper is a good first step. This is very thick, strong paper; thicker than the flimsy brown paper used to wrap bags and more like real butcher paper. It is clearly marked as recyclable so your recipient knows they can recycle it. As with all Hallmark papers, the cut lines are wonderful. This makes for a simple wrap that you can decorate with a simple yarn ribbon, a reusable bow or ribbon, or even something natural like a pine cone branch. I think it looks great with some red for visual interest. With this paper you are making a statement of sorts and it may take a while to get used to it, it is definitely less flashy than a glamorous glitter covered eye candy. You have to be at your most creative to create an elegant and welcoming look when you have a room full of brown gifts. The task will not please everyone, but it is necessary for a good cause. Be sure to use washi tape for maximum recyclability. The plastic strap is not recyclable and must be removed before the paper is recycled - which is not always done in anticipation of Christmas morning or by each recipient. There are three major rolls of this paper. So if you're also giving up extra gifts this year, which is another big step towards sustainability, this paper might very well suffice for all your needs. Also check out the Japanese art of furoshiki, which involves wrapping gifts in fabric that can be used over and over again.
