Sorry but thought this would be a great little addition, a map compass to toss in your bag or give to a fellow traveler. For money, what can go wrong, right? When I unpacked the compass, I immediately noticed that the needle was "stuck" inside the compass case, rendering it completely unusable. I tapped the compass gently and shook it to loosen the needle. useless. I returned it as defective for a refund. Choose Suunto or Silva. It's only a few dollars more and I've never had a problem with a brand in this price range.
