I love this oiler. It is very smooth, clean and retains oil well. I bought it to replace the oil bell. While I like having oil at room temperature, storing it in water and shutting off the water every two or three days was no longer practical during those vivid daydreams of days, weeks, and months that seem to be happening all at once switch. my oil is in this oil bowl proudly displaying it on the counter for my dogs to see. I like that a block of Kerrygold or two sticks fit in comfortably. My oil has never gone bad and I have never doubted it was sealed. I wish it was dishwasher safe but that's a minor thing as it's so quick and easy to clean. I highly recommend this butter dish.
