I've been looking for a lighting solution for video recordings for a long time, if not ideal, but at least close. My first purchase was a Neewer CN-304 flashlight, then I bought a Venidice Pro Series 198 LED and now a Yongnuo YN300 III. Of the three, Yongnuo impressed me the most. There was nothing wrong with the Neewer light, but nothing to worry about either. This does not apply to Yongnuo YN-300. The first thing that struck me about a Yongnuo product is the workmanship. These lights (I bought two) are very well made with quality parts. Despite its low weight, it appears solidly built - this also applies to the components. This is an important feature as I want to make sure the product lasts a long time. The main reason I returned the Venidice bulbs is that they flickered with every touch - they seemed cheaply made - a sure sign they won't last long. The second thing that struck me about Yongnuo lamps is their brightness, which is very important unless you plan to position the light source a few inches from the subject. The brighter the light, the farther away from the subject you can place the light source. When using Venidice lights, the light was a bit dim and needed to be very close to the subject to properly illuminate it. Third, I was pleased to find that Yongnuo flashlights offer a number of necessary additions. While it doesn't include batteries or a charger, it does include a remote control so the light can be controlled in tandem and remotely (!), a handle that feels solid for both handheld and comfortable use. Placed on a lighting stand and finally a small shelf stand is included to place lights in small spaces like a bookshelf, which can come in handy for creating creative lighting options. Finally, I was also impressed that this pack includes barn doors for lighting, allowing the user to focus the light more tightly and allowing for more creative lighting options. Of course, the light also has temperature control, and there is a downloadable app that allows the user to control the light from a smartphone. On the other hand, the barn doors are not removable, so using a softbox or color gels is quite difficult, if not impossible.
