I bought such a shelf, I really liked it. So I decided on a different one but didn't want it to be exactly the same. I chose this option and I really regret it. while the shelves are adjustable to make them level. They weren't even close. Almost every knot had to be moved, some even 3 inches. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the poor quality of the rope. It was very difficult to untie the knots as the rope was twisted too loosely. Again, not the worst if not for the dirty shelves themselves. I'll get there, maybe a bit of dust/paint on it as part of the agonizing and drying process, but this shelf had to be completely wiped down before I even wanted to put it on the table, to correct the knots. Once you deal with these issues, the end result is fine at best. The rope is very flimsy and looks cheap even from across the room (compared to the cheaper version I bought earlier). I believe the shelves are of good thickness. TL; DR: Overcoming all your problems looks good, but there are options that look better with less work and money.
