I love this little thing. The sound quality is of course much better than the iPhone's built-in microphone. But I'm not an audio engineer, so I'll stop here. Although it sounds a lot better to me. The microphone can stick straight out of the bottom of the phone or be bent at a 90° angle. It can also be rotated to swap left and right orientation. The fit to the phone must be tight. So tight I could barely use it with the thin silicone case but not at all with my regular hard plastic case. I was able to sand down the case to make room for this mic and plug it in securely, but be aware that only the thinnest cases will work. Otherwise, you'll have to remove the case, unless... You also have the option of purchasing a Lightning extension cable. I did that initially. The cable connects to the phone with the case, and the microphone connects to the other end of the cable. This works fine, but then you have to hold the phone and microphone somehow. It was too bulky for me so I redesigned the phone case to fit the mic. However, sometimes I still use a cable to make my Shure mic work like a (big, ugly) lavalier mic. 😀For iPhone 7 users without 3.5mm headphone jack, you cannot control the audio while recording. This is not possible with Bluetooth/wireless headphones and of course you cannot connect wired headphones when a microphone is connected. ...unless there's some sort of adapter that I'm not aware of that allows for an audio input and an audio output device... Anyway, just something to know. You can see a graphical representation of the levels in the Shure app and apps like Filmic Pro, but you can't hear the audio when it arrives. Customize how the microphone picks up audio and enable high-quality audio recording right in the app. I assume most people who buy this already have their favorite recording app, but it's still a nice feature. The mic also remembers what it's set to so you can set it up and then use it with any other app or even another iOS device and it will work exactly how you set it up.
